Perfect day for a Hemingway’s

The weather has well and truly turned; the waves are getting bigger and the Manly ferries have been cancelled!!

With a swell forecast of up to 15 feet, that’s a pretty good reason to avoid the water. Although I do know a few hardcore surfers who’ll be itching in their wet boots to get stuck in, gunning for their boards and hitting the water as fast as their legs can take them. If I was of the surfing variety I’m sure I’d be there with them (although I’d always be tempted to do the baywatch run into the water…) but I’m more of the ‘watch-in-awe’ type of water baby. I’d quite happily rush back to grab my camera and gasp in amazement, to realise my camera’s on the wrong setting and I’ve missed the most incredible barrel-rolls. It’ll certainly be a long time before I’d have shots like the guys from Saltmotion. But sure half the fun is in the trying, and then the other half laughing about them afterwards.

So when you’ve captured all the shots you can take, and before your hands go completely numb from the wind, the best place to catch your breath and enjoy being back indoors on a day like this, would have to be Hemingway’s.

Cosy and quirky, with big country wooden tables alongside small café style parisien tables, and a wall lined with books, its perfect for watching the world go by. Knowing that their Di Gabriel-sourced coffee is pretty good too, also helps.

And if you’re peckish I’d highly recommend the home-made, yet very stylish, ‘’chips n gravy’, the onion rings, or the nuggets. You’ll not be in any hurry to get back outside. Which might be a good thing as they also have a bar, and serve food til’ late.

So with up to 50km/hr winds, and hitting a cool 15 degrees, its definitely the perfect day for a Hemingway’s.
